How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home
Share
Buying a ring online, or as a surprise gift, and not sure about the size? The good news is that you can find it at home in two minutes, with a ruler and either a ring that already fits or a piece of string.
Method 1: measure a ring that already fits
- Pick a ring that fits well on the finger you want to wear the new ring on.
- Place it on a ruler and measure the inside diameter from edge to edge, in millimeters.
- Find the closest number in the chart below.
Method 2: measure your finger with string or paper
- Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of string around the base of your finger – snug, but not tight.
- Mark the point where the ends meet.
- Lay it flat and measure the length in millimeters – this is your finger's circumference.
- Match it to the chart.
Ring size chart
| US size | Inside diameter (mm) | Circumference (mm) | EU size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 15.7 | 49.3 | 49 |
| 6 | 16.5 | 51.9 | 52 |
| 7 | 17.3 | 54.4 | 54 |
| 8 | 18.1 | 57.0 | 57 |
| 9 | 18.9 | 59.5 | 59 |
Tips for an accurate result
- Measure in the evening – fingers are slightly wider at the end of the day, and when it's warm.
- Between two sizes? Choose the larger one.
- Wide band? Go up half a size – wide rings feel tighter.
- Buying a surprise? Borrow a ring she wears often (on the same finger) and measure it with method 1.
